Daily Dose of DIY has an awesome article on Cricut Design Space for Dummies I love this tutorial as it has easy to follow screen shots and covers the functions you need to get you started using Design Space.
Crafty Life Mom
This tutorial from Crafty Life Mom – How to Save SVG Files in Cricut Design Space has great instructions including a video. There is also a link to instructions using SVG files in Silhouette Studio Library in case you have both machines.
